Kind of like Eat, Pray, Love but not so Rom-Com and sappy and blech...so, not like it at all, I guess. Just a spot for us to share drink recipes, TV and music recommendations, other junk that we might find important enough to take the time to edit the page.
Sometimes alcohol is the only way to tolerate the world...but, as my grandpappy used to say, every thing in moderation.

We found 360 Vodka at our local liquor store. Good ol' USA vodka and, like so many alcohols these days, it comes in many flavors. We chose peach.

We were in a bar in Hannibal, Missouri. Great little place, home of Mark Twain, right on the mighty Mississippi...Hannibal is the home of Mark Twain, not the bar, although I can't swear to that. The bartender was serving this shot in a little shot glass-sized beer mug. We felt compelled to try the local cuisine. We don't remember what she called it. We may have had several along with our normal-sized drinks. Looks like beer. Tastes like vanilla ice cream. Made with a Spanish liqueur called 43 and heavy cream.

One of the all-time great golfers and sports personalities. Period. His Arnold Palmer drink, iced tea and lemonade, was invented by him and his wife. I know there's a John Daly version with vodka...not much of a surprise there, TBH. Mine uses Jack Daniel's Blackberry because a man like Arnie, who had his own army, deserves to be paired with a man like Jack. I want to believe that in his prime, he had other golfers saying "that Arnold F&#king Palmer is playing great again today!"

I feel like I have a little more class when I drink gin. I know what you're saying: Karl, you should drink gin more often. I can't disagree. This one is simple and refreshing. In a tall glass or a rocks glass, as Mr. Billy Joel says, it all depends upon your appetite.

Speaking of class...I like red wine, particularly a nice pinot noir (although I did a good job on a bottle of Malbec in Argentina once and enjoyed it thoroughly). Back in the day, I bartended at The Tryon Inn in Cherry Valley, NY. The owner and his management companions really knew about wine. This Beaujolais ended up on the wine list. I'm not a connoisseur; I can't tell you about the bouquet or what vintage is the best or the subtle hints of whatever the grape crusher was wearing (think I Love Lucy....IYKYK). I just like it. And it's reasonably priced which appeals to my Scrooge side.

Some summertime fun in a short glass. Nothing like getting home on a Wednesday and whipping up a few shots. I know what you're thinking....he might have a problem. To be fair and for right now, Wednesday is my almost Friday...gotta do a few hours in the morning and then it's the weekend. So, there's no time like the present.

Because we're not ready to completely unplug so we pay for the streaming crapola like we used to pay for cable. Some of these may make you think, "where the hell have you two been??" Yeah, we may be late but some of you, like us, may just be pacing yourselves.

A few years ago, the boss was out of the house one evening so I decided to start watching this. She won't like it, it's about zombies...might as well watch while she's not here. Well, she came home within the first 15 minutes of Episode 1:
"What are you watching?"
"Zombies. We can change it."
"What's happened so far?"
And that was all it took. Every night after work I'd hear those words..."Is it time for zombies now??"
Rating: 0 Zs...ain't sleeping on zombies

I'm not sure how we found this one...just scrolling though Netflix, no doubt. The boss really liked it. I liked it fine. Good cast, decent acting although a little over dramatic at times, great scenery, good story.

I WAS IN THE POOL!! Ok, wrong series...but shrinkage is a serious thing.
Another one we stumbled on...probably after finishing Ted Lasso on Apple TV so we were snooping around the place. A pretty funny show despite some heavy topics. Harrison Ford is great. We are currently rewatching so we can get to season 4 and more Michael J. Fox.
Rating: 0.5 Zs only because I just sometimes fall asleep on the couch.

A Netflix series. We just finished this one recently. Only 3 seasons so far, a 4th is promised. A good drama with humor and political intrigue...and a not-so-subtle callback to The West Wing. Like a lot of things that we watch, it is NOT heavy into taking shots at the current political climate and that's a good thing. I won't be lectured to by the arrogant Hollywood class who are so out of touch with America and have promised to leave, all while I'm just trying to relax so suck it Ruffalo and DeNiro!! Oooops, the voices in my head have entered the chat.

Another Netflix series and films. We both enjoyed this, the 6 seasons and the 3 bonus films. I confess to not having high expectations and, in my most uncivilized way, even thought it was called Downtown Abbey but because of the English accent it sounded like Downton. That's what happens when there is not enough gin in my diet.

The senses are amazing triggers. A sight, a sound, a smell can instantly cause your brain to start rifling through its filing cabinet to retrieve a memory. For me, my brain is an a$$hole a lot of the times since it only gives me part of the memory or just a hint of it...just enough so that I know it's there, I can see it, feel it in my mind's eye, the old "right on the tip of my tongue" thing ...but not enough to actually remember it clearly, you know, when it is useful like in a conversation or just to not leave me frustrated that I can't remember. Whatever. I get to call them Senior Moments, now.
Music does this for me a lot. A song can transport you in time. Like old Andy Dufresne said, "That's the beauty of music. They can't [take] that from you." I may have mentioned before, at least musically, I'm kinda stuck in the 70s, 80s, and some 90s (mostly for Country music). The world, in general, started slipping off the tracks about then. Oh sure, you can make an argument that it's always been on a slippery slope because, well, humans. My geology professor in college called it the Human Cussedness Factor...just can't always predict what those people will do for no apparent reason.
Anywho, here are some random music selections for your listening enjoyment...or not. If you ask nicely, with that Harvard mouth and extend me some f&#king courtesy, I might play some requests.
Let's start with Warren Zevon. I'm hoping this little venture doesn't require Lawyers, Guns, and Money.
The Outfield - I think a seriously underrated 80's band. We all know about Josey being on vacation, but they had a lot of great music beyond Your Love. So, this is For You to experience...see what I did there?
Chris LeDoux - Never heard of him until Garth put him in the lyrics of Much Too Young To Feel This Damn Old. I went down a rabbit hole and found a bunch of good songs...more like old country and not pop nonsense. This is how I want to run my bar...Five Dollar Fine.
Speaking of Garth, got a ton of popular songs to choose from. Yeah, I know he's kinda pop nonsense at times but he does have some classics and certainly knows how to put on a show. In keeping with the barroom theme, let's join a meeting of the American Honkytonk Bar Association.
When I first attempted college, my roommate was a guy from NJ named Dan Welker. Looked like Letterman, tooth gap and all, except shorter and stockier, a rugby version of Letterman. Big Rolling Stones fan. At 18, I was not. We got along well except for that. One of the funniest (to me) times was when the dopey neighbors got really drunk, got up to pee in the middle of the night, walked instead into our room, and pissed all over his Stones albums. He was not happy. I've learned a lot since that one year at Gettysburg. First, lock your dorm room at night. Second, the Rolling Stones are friggin awesome. I'm not a full-blown fanboy but they are Top 10 all-time. I saw them on the Steel Wheels tour. I know you're jealous because I Can Almost Hear You Sigh. And, thanks Dan, wherever you are...urine awesome dude for forcing me to listen to your LPs.
I learned to play an instrument in 6th grade. Drums. I lasted about 2 months, maybe. Couldn't stand practicing. I'm a helluva dashboard/stickshift drummer though. So, you can take my opinion to the bank when it comes to music and "best" and "top 10" because I've obviously put in the time to get this knowledge. No doubt hands down 1000% consensus that this is a Top 10 guitar solo, could be Top 5. Ladies and gentlemen, Free Bird. You know the song but you haven't listened to it in its entirety in forever. Take 10 minutes now. You deserve it.
It's 2fer Tuesday. Have another...or three. Steps. Gimme Three Steps. For sure.
Yes. Such a positive affirmative band. Let's take two from them, shall we? France, 1984. I remember but I don't know if my fellow Frenchies from that trip do (or if they'll even see this). Whatev. Leave It.
You might be thinking Owner of a Lonely Heart is next. You'd be right in thinking that...great song....but you zigged and I zagged and, you know, It Can Happen.
Led Zeppelin. Another band I am ashamed to say I just didn't get into in my youth. I can't explain it, they just didn't do anything for me. Then I heard Model Citizens do a cover at a bar in Oneonta, can't even remember which song, and that opened my eyes. I'm not a die hard fan but I certainly appreciate them and love some songs....here are two. I mean, Ramble On references LOTR and Gollum...how do you not like that, teenage Karl?!?!
When you're done with that, ramble on over to Kashmir. Lordy, what a trip and a song.
Is it Tuesday again??? 2FERS...drink, drink, listen, listen.
Supertramp, another eclectic band from the 70s and 80s. Sadly, for me, another band that I just didn't dive deep into. Oh, I knew the hits, and you're getting two here, but I didn't go beneath that surface. I still have time. It's on my to-do list. With a group this good, it's only logical.
It was an early morning yesterday. I was up before the dawn. Ahh, such was most of my teen years, being a paperboy for the bucolic village of Worcester. Goodbye Stranger. It's been nice.
Brooks & Dunn. Kix and Ronnie. No idea which is which but they've been cranking out hits since the late 80s. Two of my favorites, on the slower side, and, kinda ironically given my penchant for questioning the Man upstairs, both related to faith, sort of.
